Trentin takes Tour de l’Ain opener

by CyclingTips

Matteo Trentin (Etixx – Quick Step) won the opening stage field sprint of the Tour de l’Ain ahead of Rudy Barbier (Roubaix Lille Métropole) and Phil Bauhaus (Bora-Argon 18).

The 160km stage had a three-rider breakaway with Arnaud Gérard (Fortunéo), Thomas Voeckler (Direct Energy) and Alexandre Geniez (FDJ). The trio had a maximum lead of four minutes but were caught by the peloton 6km from the finish.

The Etixx-QuickStep team delivered the Italian to his third win of 2016 after stage wins in the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de Wallonie.
