Seeking to strengthen its squad for the coming seasons, the UAE Emirates team has announced that former Tour de France stage winner and past Milan San Remo/Tour of Flanders champion Alexander Kristoff will be part of the squad in the future.
However, unusually, it has released the news before a final contract has been inked. “UAE Team Emirates has reached a deal with cyclist Alexander Kristoff to take him into the ranks of the team for the 2018 and 2019 seasons,” it said via its Facebook page on Wednesday.
“The definitive contract will be signed in the next few weeks, after some routine tests by the team’s medical staff.”
Kristoff has been part of the Katusha team since 2012 but relations became somewhat strained this season. He will hope that a fresh start will see him return to his best form.
