The Tour de San Luis might have been cancelled for 2017 but in its place will be another Argentinian event, the Vuelta a San Juan.
Promoted to UCI 2.1 for its 35th edition, the 2017 Vuelta a San Juan is expected to attract four WorldTour teams — Bahrain-Merida, Quick Step, Trek-Segafredo and TJ Sport — and some of the sport’s biggest names: Vincenzo Nibali, Tom Boonen, Fernando Gaviria, Elia Viviani and Bauke Mollema.
The seven-stage race will run from January 23-29 and, like the Tour de San Luis before it, the Vuelta a San Juan will feature a variety of terrain with stages for the sprinters, time trialist and climbers. Stage 5 will be of particular interest to the climbers thanks to its 14.4km stage-ending climb to Alto de Colorado.
