Mathieu van der Poel (Beobank-Corendon) won round five of the DVV Trofee in Antwerp, Belgium on Saturday as Sanne Cant (IKO Enertherm-Beobank) took out the fifth round of the IJsboerke Ladies Trophy.
In the elite men’s race, Dutch champion van der Poel dropped world champion and rival Wout Van Aert (Crelan-Vastgoedservice) in a sandy section of the 12th and final lap, before riding away to victory. Van Aert finished second while Kevin Pauwels (Marlux-Napoleon Games) finished a close third.
Van Aert remains comfortably in the lead of the DVV Trofee general classification, 2:34 ahead of Pauwels.
In the elite women’s race, Belgian champion Cant reached the final metres with Sophie de Boer (Kalas-NNOF) for company, but was able to sprint to victory. Katerina Nash (CLIF Pro Team) was third, 45 seconds back. In her CX comeback former world champion Marianne Vos (Rabo-Liv) finished fourth.
