Team Sky’s rider for the overall at Paris-Nice, Dutchman Woet Poels, will not start the ‘race to the sun’ due to a knee problem.
“It’s something I’ve been suffering from since the final stage of the Ruta del Sol,” he told Wieler Flits. “It also prevents me from performing my workouts. Since then, I’ve had to take it easy.
“I did not crash, so do not know exactly what’s going on. We’re going to find out.”
Poels said he does not have a timeline for his return until he can confer with the team’s medical staff. “It is difficult to estimate. I now have to deal with it, but obviously I hope that it will not take too long.”
Frenchman Kenny Elissonde will replace Poels. Sergio Henao will also take the start, sporting his new Colombian national champion jersey.
